Since Emperor of Ice Cream announced their return from a twenty-five-year hiatus in May 2020 and the release of their long-awaited debut album 'No Sound Ever Dies' last August, they have embarked on a chapter that very few, if any expected would be written. The acclaimed debut long player entered the official Irish album charts upon release while also taking the No.1 spot in the indie album charts. Add to that, topping the Irish digital singles charts on three occasions and it is a staggering four No 1’s since their comeback topping off a remarkable story.
Rarely (if ever) has a band’s debut album taken as long to reach its fans as No Sound Ever Dies by Emperor of Ice Cream; but perhaps theirs' is no ordinary story. Emperor of Ice Cream returned to the studio last April to put the finishing touches to an album that was shelved 25 years ago, when they prematurely parted company with their label, Sony Records.
They discovered a treasure trove of recordings and unfinished ideas that still sounded remarkably fresh despite the passing of time and began the process of completing a project that they had left Cork for London to work on during a heady period in the early-nineties. Fledgling riotous performances and early demos had piqued the interest of several record labels, but Sony pipped them all to the post with a promising development deal, and the lure of London captured the imagination of the four young Cork musicians.
It resulted in three extremely well-received EPs (Overflow, William and Know Me) which unless you were lucky enough to pick up a physical copy back in the pre digital 90’s, are no longer available. Due to the success of ‘No Sound Ever Dies’ and a renewed demand from followers old and new to release these EP’s, The Emperors have remastered the EP’s and are releasing them via bandcamp over the next two bandcamp Fridays. With ‘Overflow being released on Feb 5th and William on Mar 5th. To be followed by a complication CD of all 3 releases from 1993-94 on April16th.
Από τότε που οι Emperor of Ice Cream ανακοίνωσαν την επιστροφή τους από ένα εικοσιπενταετές κενό τον Μάιο του 2020 και την κυκλοφορία του πολυαναμενόμενου ντεμπούτου άλμπουμ τους «No Sound Ever Dies» τον περασμένο Αύγουστο, έχουν ξεκινήσει ένα κεφάλαιο που πολύ λίγα, αν υπάρχουν αναμένεται να γραφτούν. Το ντεμπούτο τους μπήκε στα επίσημα ιρλανδικά charts άλμπουμ κατά την κυκλοφορία του, ενώ πήρε επίσης το Νο. 1 στο indie άλμπουμ. Προσθέστε σε αυτό και το κορυφαίο των τρισδιάστατων ψηφιακών singles σε τρεις περιπτώσεις και έτσι είναι ένα εντυπωσιακό ντεμπούτο με μια αξιοσημείωτη ιστορία.
Σπάνια (αν έχει συμβεί ποτέ) συμβαίνει το ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ μιας μπάντας να φτάσει στους θαυμαστές του όπως το No Sound Ever Dies από τους Emperor of Ice Cream. αλλά ίσως η δική τους δεν είναι συνηθισμένη ιστορία. Οι Emperor of Ice Cream επέστρεψαν στο στούντιο τον περασμένο Απρίλιο για να δώσουν τις τελευταίες πινελιές σε ένα άλμπουμ που είχε κλείσει πριν από 25 χρόνια, όταν χώρισαν πρόωρα με την εταιρεία τους, Sony Records.
Ανακάλυψαν ένα θησαυρό ηχογραφήσεων και ημιτελών ιδεών που ακούγονταν ακόμα πολύ φρέσκα παρά το πέρασμα του χρόνου και ξεκίνησαν τη διαδικασία ολοκλήρωσης ενός έργου το οποίο είχαν αφήσει στο Κορκ. Πήγαν στο Λονδίνο για να εργαστούν κατά τη διάρκεια μιας δύσκολης περιόδου στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '90. Οι μαζικές παραστάσεις και οι πρώιμες επιδείξεις είχαν προκαλέσει το ενδιαφέρον αρκετών δισκογραφικών εταιρειών, αλλά η Sony τα έβαλε όλα στη θέση τους με μια πολλά υποσχόμενη αναπτυξιακή συμφωνία και το δέλεαρ του Λονδίνου συνέλαβε τη φαντασία των τεσσάρων νέων μουσικών του Κορκ.
Αυτό είχε ως αποτέλεσμα τρία εξαιρετικά καλά EP (Overflow, William and Know Me) τα οποία, εκτός και αν ήσασταν αρκετά τυχεροί για να πάρετε ένα φυσικό αντίγραφο πίσω στις προ ψηφιακές δεκαετίες του '90, δεν είναι πλέον διαθέσιμα.
Λόγω της επιτυχίας του "No Sound Ever Dies" και της ανανεωμένης απαίτησης από οπαδούς παλιούς και νέους να κυκλοφορήσουν αυτά τα EP, οι Emperors έχουν αναδιαμορφώσει το EP και το απελευθερώνουν μέσω bandcamp τις επόμενες δύο Παρασκευές. Με το «Overflow να κυκλοφορεί στις 5 Φεβρουαρίου και τον William στις 5 Μαρτίου. Θα ακολουθήσει ένα CD και των 3 κυκλοφοριών από το 1993-94 στις 16 Απριλίου.
